FORNASETTI: The perfect synergy between art and extravagance
Fornasetti has established herself as one of the biggest names in interior design, and her innovative creations are instantly recognizable bringing a sense of humor and whimsy to every interior. In this article written by the Segraeti team you will learn more about this brand.
Fornasetti is an icon in the world of Italian design. Founded by Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s, and now run by his son, the studio is characterized by its playful approach to surrealist art. If this elusive artist left behind him one of the most consequent productions of objects and furniture of the 20th century, it is because he had the art and the way of playing with an elegant sense of humor and a pronounced taste for surrealism, thus successfully poetizing Italian design.
Cradled by multiple influences, his work reflects a whole mixture of styles and inspirations: the history of art, nature, the commedia dell'arte, Roman antiquity, the Italian Renaissance, the architecture of Palladio … Without forgetting his muse, the singer Lina Cavalieri, whose face he declined almost obsessively in more than 350 drawings.
Throughout its history, Fornasetti has created an authentic visual language, characterized by humour, nostalgia, metaphor or allusions, capable of transforming design objects into real “conversation pieces”. Both insatiable and satisfying, Fornasetti's creations are still considered true works of modern art today. All the creations of the Italian house are made only by hand, in limited annual editions, in its workshop located in Milan.
The skill of craftsmen and the creativity of designers applied to a wide variety of everyday objects, create plates, chairs, cushions and candles, which add an eccentric touch to any interior, offering viewers a passport into the fantasy world of the brand that floats somewhere between imagination and reality.
